This technical committee report describes current industrypractices and gives information on the most commonly usedgeneric coating systems for protection of threaded fastenersused with structural steel, piping, and equipment. Thecoating system provides a protective barrier between thebase metal and the environment to minimize the effect ofcorrosion. The information presented in this reportaddresses steel quality, pretreatment processes, coatingapplication, quality assurance/quality control, and testcomparisons for evaluating corrosion resistance. Thisreport does not reflect the NACE position on thesepractices, but rather summarizes existing technology andpractices of various manufacturers, applicators, and users.
